Director of Disinformation
Inspired by Transformers box art from the 80s and 90s, I wanted to create a transformer that represented the darker side of social media. So naturally it's a decepticon.
The project started with a digital sketch and designing a composition. I used quite a few references to capture a pose and play up the perspective like the source material. I imagined the flurry of emojis that appear during a livestream appearing around the subject and thought it would be clever to use a ring light as a stand-in for the gun's scope.
I kept the color palette limited but to the point. Magenta and cyan are very prominent in a certain social media's icon so that was used as the anchors. I used the dark purple as an alternative to black and then I saw how the very bright yellow worked as a great contrast to this and worked in a sort of triadic with the cyan and magenta as well.
I had some fun with the emojis and kept these rather simple and fun.
For the buildings I looked at old cordless phones for inspiration but otherwise just had fun with these shapes.
